Mikaila serves as a counselor at The Child & Family Counseling Center. She is currently working under the supervision of Jaye Bilyeu, LPC-MHSP and Dr. Mary Payne, PhD, Licensed Psychologist, HSP. Mikaila obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Fisk University and received her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with an Addictions Specialization, from Lipscomb University.
Mikaila is currently seeing individual and family clients age 8 and up with special interests in relationships, stress, self-esteem, school issues, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and general adjustment/phase of life issues. Mikaila welcomes clients of all cultural backgrounds, especially individuals from marginalized and underserved communities.
Mikaila has experience working with various populations as her job experience includes working in both clinical and residential counseling settings, working with children and adolescents (ages 5 to 17), working with adult males (ages 24 & up), family counseling, group sessions, and working with victims of substance abuse.
In the counseling room, Mikaila seeks to ensure that her client(s) feel seen and heard. Mikaila encourages you to set goals for your time in treatment, and walks alongside you as you reach them. Her skills in session primarily derive from both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. While Mikaila acknowledges that one’s emotions can influence their thoughts, which can influence behaviors, she also believes that we all are equipped to find the best solutions for ourselves and are capable of enacting positive changes in our lives.
In her time outside of the office, Mikaila enjoys volunteering in her community, traveling, trying new foods, working out, and supporting the various Nashville professional athletic teams.
