Individual therapy is currently provided for adults. Our team believes in using treatments that are founded in research, while also being individualized to the specific client. Some of our most commonly used treatment modalities are listed below.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) – CBT is an evidenced based treatment that involves learning the relationship between one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. In doing so, skills are learned to help improve control over negative thoughts and unhelpful actions in order to improve mood. Coping skills can include relaxation, cognitive challenges, and behavioral activation. CBT has shown significant effectiveness in the treatment of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. CBT is considered skills based and time limited.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – At this time, our clinic does not offer adherent DBT treatment including individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis consultation. However, many of our providers are trained to utilize DBT skills to help the client to identify thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions that can make life harder. DBT skills include four primary modules: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. Mindfulness helps on to be present in the moment and to focus on positive thoughts. Interpersonal effectiveness helps the client to work on their personal relationships and how to interact with people around you. Distress tolerance provides skills for one to accept the situation or oneself in a non-judgmental way. Emotional Regulation helps one to properly identify emotions and the obstacles that are in the way of changing those emotions.

Mindfulness Based Interventions – Mindfulness is when one can become more aware of their present moment and how that affects them physically and emotionally; without letting that situation overwhelm them and without being judgmental. Examples of mindfulness interventions would be breathing exercises and guided imagery. These interventions helps the client to ground themselves in the moment.

Acceptance Based Approaches – Acceptance therapy stems from behavioral therapy and CBT. This approach helps clients gain the skills to stop denying and struggling with their emotions. Instead they learn to accept these intense emotions as appropriate response to certain situations. This helps the client to accept their hardships and make those behavioral changes.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – EMDR helps people heal from traumas both big and small. EMDR involves the past, present, and future. With EMDR one goes back to the past hurt, and looks at current situations that can be triggering. Throughout the process of EMDR the client will identify three things: the visual image related to the memory, a negative belief about themselves, and related emotions and body sensations. By going back to the past and identifying those negative beliefs the client is able to heal, and let go of those negative beliefs.

Biofeedback Training – Biofeedback measures psychological activity and provides real-time feedback to allow you to develop mastery over your physiological responses. When combined with psychotherapy and instruction form a trained provider, this feedback can be used to optimize your body’s response to relaxation techniques and other methods of mental control. This technique is especially helpful to counteract the harmful effects of stress on the body and on the mind. Biofeedback uses sensitive medical/research grade technology (with sensors that measure things such as heart rate, sweating, muscle tension) to give you information about very small changes in your own body’s stress signals that are otherwise too subtle to notice.
