Learning to Grow

Learning, in order to grow, requires being open-minded enough to learn to grow. I just attended a fabulous continuing education panel on trans issues in therapy and assessment, and it was such a great reminder that growing often requires us to let down our guard and be willing to acknowledge that we don’t know it all. It requires us to move past our fears, jump out of our comfort zones and be open to new information, new experiences, new people, and new things. It means learning to ask questions and be open to the answers, learning to analyze and accept critical feedback, and a willingness to allow your knowledge and views change as you get new information. We also have to accept that growing sometimes means falling and failing along the way.

Life is an ongoing process of learning and growing. Sometimes we get stuck. It may be anxiety getting in our way or depression holding us back. It may be problems in our relationships with others. Therapy is an option to develop (or find again!) your own personal love of learning and growing. It can help create a safe space to face the discomfort that comes with change. If you would like to start your own journey, feel free to check out our clinicians, learn more about the services we provide, and contact us when you are ready to start your journey.

Wishing you lots of growth – – – Dr. Payne
